Hi Steve - I am the Managing Partner of Cafe Smoothies LLC in San Rafael. As the CEO of my previous company, Healthy Dairy LLC, I personally secured and managed the Walmart account. We produced, distributed and marketed Walmart's Private Label fruit smoothies, selling 90,000 bottles per week. Having identified that Chocolate and Coffee Smoothies are in demand, I produced samples, presented them to all the Bay Area independent supermarket buyers, and they said ship as soon as you can. Our Smoothies are All Natural, with Live and Active Cultures, only 200 calories, will retail for $2.19. Your site reflects that you do not invest in consumer package goods companies. Any exceptions? Once funded, we will be on shelves in 90 days. We need $1.5 million to execute our Business Plan. Having been in the beverage industry for 25 years with a very successful track record, I know that we can be acquired by Coke, Pepsi or a major dairy in less than two years. Can email Executive Summary. If interested, please call me. Thanks...Andy Salis 650 - 430 - 1182

Excellent interview with co-founder Dan Lynn. He and his partners are making it easier for top corporations to organize their contacts which will in turn make their marketing campaigns better and more efficient. It's good to see Dan's creativity, innovation and other skills come into play. He and his partners are making the world go around better and more efficiently. I'm signing up for Rainmaker.cc today. FW

I agree with your review about this book but want to point out that policymakers should read this as well so that they may well understand what successful entrepreneurship looks like and what the real challenges are. It should make them stop and think the next time they try and implement policies and programs to spur innovation.

I definitely think that businesses should focus on mobile web applications. This is the next big thing that will be a big addition to any business out there. If you have a business that can't be viewed on a mobile phone, then that's a possible customer that you are missing out on. Sharepoint is a awesome product and I will be adding it to my business soon. The amount of things that you can do with it is awesome. I especially like the fact that this product is going mobile.

Thanks for your comments, Kyle! Yep, you got down to the core issue - can these companies really make money, without being massively over-subsidized, hyped, and promoted by the venture community and wall street?

ANY company can show some kind of profit, on the income statement, when there are huge dollars behind it on the balance sheet. But when the balance sheet is handed over to "new owners" (the IPO buyers), can that company continue to sustain a profit?

That is the heart of the scam. It used to be, that startups received modest venture investments, then had to show a profit for 8 quarters, before becoming eligible for an IPO. That is no longer the case. Just look at how much the vc's have pumped into Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. How in the world, are the public stockholders that buy their IPO's, ever going to make that back?

I appreciate you stopping by, and encourage everyone that's interested in this topic, to give your post a careful read. I don't disagree with anything you said.

I really enjoyed every interview with Brad. Knowledge from a seasoned serial entrepreneur is always inspiring and motivating. I especially enjoy the struggle stories because it's good to know that every successful company had battles to win and fires to put out on a daily basis. I agree that it's all about the people, find people you like, know, and trust and build something remarkable with them.

Looking forward to your future interviews Steve.

Hi John,

Sorry, you're not ready to hear interviews 3 and 4 - you need to go back to 1 and 2. Brad didn't invest in Netscape, Soft Bank, or Mobius. Please re-study the material, then get back to us :-)

But we do appreciate you stopping by, and hope you come back.

Great suggestion, Chris. We've added two "FAQ" style questions to the start of this interview. We'll get it down to a standard list of facts and/or questions, and add it to each interview as a sidebar. Input one what we should cover would be welcome!

Bill, could you elaborate what you mean by that? Perhaps we should move the questions into the footer area, so there show all the time that the question is being answered. This is something we plan to experiment with.

Thanks for the good input!

PS, hey we were just interviewing an exec at Microsoft yesterday Bill, but sadly we didnt see you around the office! :)

I think this interview is pretty informative and I think its pretty interesting that he and his wife came up with the idea of tapping into the college nightlife scene and to take advantage of the popularity of social networking to provide a site that people will definitely go on to see their pictures.

The video is very professional and gives good insight into the entrepreneurial world and how to get involved with a startup. If I was looking to go into this field I would find these video's useful and interesting.

Niites is an interesting company located in San Luis Obispo. I think that the concept is great to have in SLO, but I am not sure how proitable this will be in SLO. The night life scene here is different than LA and the life of a promoting company will also be vastly different.

Owaseis, thanks for stopping by Startup Trek TV and posting your question!

Well, defining "what is a startup" is complicated. There are different stages that Startups go through - like a child, from newborn to infant to toddler, to terrible two's etc. I would classify your venture as a "concept-stage, pre-funding" level startup. Each month in Silicon Valley alone, I would estimate there are around 10,000 new ventures that emerge to fall into this class. Some of them go on in that state for months or years; others are funded in one manner or another fairly quickly.

So the key question here is what level of MOMENTUM do you have? How well defined and realistic are your plans? Depending upon what type of business you are starting, it could take months or even years to pull together a fundable venture.

Often the key catalyst is one of the founder, a friend, or a family member provides a little "friends and family" money, it could be as little as $1 to $15k, to get things really moving.

But the short answer is "YES", as long as you're really serious and working hard on it; even if you still have a day job (many great startups begin that way).

But the only completely objective answer is, this question can only be answered 100% accurately "in arrears" (after the fact).

Best of luck!

Thanks for this info...I spoke to you about the cradlepoint router on saturday...at Peet's coffee. I will be sure to pass this on to all of my tech friends, as I know they would be impressed by me giving them a heads up to a bit of information I know so little about and some info they probably have not heard of.

Hope to learn something new from you again!

I was just at KSC a week ago and we got an up close and personal tour of the space center. Among other things, I was on the pad with STS-125. Awesome sight to see. Pictures and details coming soon to my blog!

I agree 100%. Now they just need to get the wrinkles out of the fantastic new stuff recently added and speed it back up to where it was a few years ago. Sometimes it drags itself down so slow it just stops working...and it is not my computer.
