Smart Grid expert Lloyd Nirenberg to post on Startup Trek

Startup Trek is pleased to announce that Dr. Lloyd Nirenberg, has agreed to contribute articles here as guest blogger. Lloyd will be publishing the “Smart Grid Technology Channel” on Startup Trek. He plans to explain all aspects of the “Smart Grid” technology initiatives to us, in plain English! Both from a technological, and a business perspective.

As we get this get this blog launched over the next week, we’ll have an interview with Mr. Nirenberg.

Lloyd Nirenberg’s Career Bio:

Lloyd Nirenberg’s enjoyed his early career as a wireless system engineer. Later, he moved into general management and business consulting, and now is a registered investment advisor with RocketCap , LLC.

Nirenberg’s work spanned applied research in signal processing, wireless system design and development, and intellectual property valuation based on financial engineering principles. He has worked as a consultant for the past 10 years, helping startups raise initial funding, and supporting technology firms to create and close business development transactions, such as merger/acquisition and IP licensing deals. Currently, he focuses on investing and helping others make wise investment decisions. He blogs on investing at his site.

In 1998, he co-founded IP Valuation, Inc. a firm that provided software for computing the price of intellectual property designs. The software applied the financial engineering theory of Real Options to solve the contingent claims associated with IP reuse. Previously, he was director of business development at National Semiconductor, where he took technology acquisition and IP licensing deals from strategy through due diligence and closure. At National, he also served as Director of Strategic Marketing for Wireless Communications.

Nirenberg has engineering and general management experience in packet switching (Tymnet, Inc.), and satellite and digital microwave radio industries (Aerospace Corp., Avantek Corp.). He has consulted with the Electric Power Research Institute in IT system development to support decision making. He has published  eight IEEE papers in signal processing. Nirenberg has a B.S. (EE) from the University of Michigan, and M.S.(EE) and Ph.D.(EE) degrees from UCLA.
