Business School Seniors in the School of Business at California Polytechnic University (San Luis Obispo CA; “Cal Poly”) enrolled in “Business 454″ are tackling the pre-launch planning for a new digital media production firm which will launch in January 2010 as “StartupTrek.TV”
The 36 business school seniors in the Orfalea School of business will gain hands-on experience working in a tech startup company, as it plans a high-profile launch on the web, in advance of developing cable and broadcast television content relationships.
Matt’s first startup, Sitepoint.com, launched ten years ago when he was 15. While living in Vancouver Island, Canada, and his staff working in New Zealand, Matt has just opened an office for his spinoff called 99Designs.com in San Francisco. Sitepoint is the 799th busiest site on the internet, and Matt has run it magnificently. He’s a very impressive and accomplished young entrepreneur.

This Churchill Club panel met at Dinah’s Poolside Cafe/Hotel April 23 2008 for a breakfast panel discussion of the state of venture investing almost half way into 2008.
The backdrop, of course, being an essentially closed IPO market, a buyer’s M&A market, soaring oil prices, a second quarter of weakening consumer spending, and of course US bond and stock markets undergoing continued major turmoil due to the ongoing mortgage derivates triggered financial crisis. But this panel of leading venture and angel investing professionals for the most part characterized the private equity investment business as percolating along just fine, thank you very much.
